In the ever-popular nightclub district of Testaccio, Akab still makes a name for itself with the quality of live entertainment it produces. This club offers an array of different local and international artists who perform a wide variety of music styles. After the concerts, the dance floors open up to reggae, acid jazz, disco, funk and soul music. Tuesday is Electronica night.

If you are looking for a place to go dance the night away, Alien is just the ticket! One of the longest-running and best-known discos in the capital, it was revamped a few years ago to give it an oriental Buddha bar look and feel. The music has adapted itself too and DJs spin mainly ambient, hip hop and house tunes. Saturday is gay night.

You can dance all night on one of Black Out's two dance floors. There is always an eclectic mix of music, including rock, grunge, Brit pop, and indie music. If you need a break from the dancing, there is a room off to the side specifically designed for socializing.

TESTACCIO. This is where many of Rome's salsa-aficionados come to hang out. Cafè de Oriente features live Latin American music most nights of the week and similar DJ-sets afterwards.

OSTIENSE. This former factory has a delightful outdoor courtyard for the warmer months. Classico Village boasts a bar, restaurant and hosts live concerts (mainly jazz) and DJ sets of house, rock and electronic music. This eclectic space ­ in Ostiense near the old train station ­ also hosts one of the city's only gay-friendly nights (usually Saturday).
